Efficient license management and inventory, integrates Oracle database and new SAM function

LOGINventory 3.20

Munich, July 17th 2003: Software and consulting company LOGIN today announced version 3.20 of its software/hardware inventory tool LOGINventory. The latest release is focused on meeting the needs of large enterprise customers: LOGINventory 3.20 supports the database Oracle 8i/9i, and finds software packets installed via Netinstall. In the field of software asset management (SAM) it integrates functions for grouping, filtering and time monitoring; for existing customers this update is free of charge as usual.

Version 3.20 is up to three times faster than before, and extends the simple user interface from previous releases. In addition, LOGINventory can be administered across a network from a single workstation, and does not require per-PC installation, presenting system administrators with huge savings in time, and removing the need to interrupt the work of end-users for software installations.

Along with the increase in speed, LOGINventory 3.20 now supports Oracle 8i/9i databases, in addition to Microsoft SQL Server and Access. The addition of Oracle support enables administrators of large enterprise networks to more quickly and comfortably access the hardware and software information that is gathered by LOGINventory.

The new release also adds support for the identification of software packets installed with NetSupport’s software distribution tool 'NetInstall'. This allows systems administrators to immediately identify successful and failed installations of key updates such as software patches and bug fixes, across a network of client PCs.

LOGINventory 3.20 also simplifies the surveillance and management of software licences, though allowing grouping, according to user preferences. This means that unimportant or irrelevant software programs, such as those that are not subject to any licensing or expiration restrictions, can be removed from reports. Additionally, it is now possible to label freeware accordingly, and to provide an expiry date for subscription-based licences.

The latest release also includes support for multiple versions of Windows operating systems installed on a single PC, which is common in development environments. Each operating system is allocated a UID (Unit Identification), making it possible to distinguish the individual components installed in each operating system. Additionally, the PC’s complete history is preserved even if it is subsequently redeployed elsewhere in a network.

LOGINventory also enables administrators to restrict the number of simultaneous scans per IP range or domains, for deployment in heterogeneous environments, and to use different accounts.

Roland Loetzerich, managing director of LOGIN, says: "We always listen to our customers’ feedback and wishes. We do not ask our customers to sign a maintenance contract to ensure that LOGINventory will eventually be upgraded to the quality that was expected upon initial purchase. Therefore, our updates are, and will remain, free of charge."

A comprehensive management of software assets throughout the entire enterprise does not only ensure compliance to software licence agreements but also indicates where software is redundant and thus can save expenses. On average, LOGINventory customers find that they can save 20 to 30 per cent annually on software licensing costs.

Prices and Availability

LOGINventory can be downloaded for free for up to 20 PC clients. The software, and free upgrades from earlier versions are available at www.LOGINventory.com/downloads.htm. Licences for companies with more PCs can be purchased directly from LOGIN, with prices varying according to the size of the network, from between £2.00 to £5.50 per PC.
