Valuable tool for administrators with new advanced features: Travel back in time into a network’s past:

LOGINventory 4.5

Munich, April 2nd, 2007: The developers of LOGIN have extended LOGINventory, the powerful inventory tool for administrators of PC networks, with a host of practical functions. The key new features in version 4.5 include the "Time Machine", a function which allows all the information of an inventoried network recorded in the past to be restored for any freely definable point in time. In addition, the Linux support has been enhanced, and the removal and restoring of PCs via the Recycle Bin function simplified. What is more, LOGINventory now also supports Windows Vista.

Used in LANs, LOGINventory automatically and quickly draws up inventories of computer hardware and software components under Windows and Linux/Unix. Using the new time machine, it is now possible to freely select the time used for queries and reports. Thanks to this unique function, it is possible, for instance, to depict the entire computer or device state for any specific date in the past. To do this, computers and devices, which have been deleted to the Recycle Bin, are restored if required – provided that the time of the inventory lies before the time of their deletion. In addition to the current data, the 'History Query' also processes information that has been collected during earlier data acquisitions. This function is useful for detecting configuration modifications on computers and devices. Needless to say, LOGINventory complies with legal regulations, since, unlike all computer-related data, which remains permanently in the database, user-related data is automatically deleted by the program after 30 days at the latest. With version 4.5.1.0 a webinterface product Add-On is available.

Enhanced SNMP support

As LOGINventory collects by default the data of all IP-enabled devices within the network, the inventory for non-Windows-based devices is performed via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). Besides Linux computers, these can also be devices such as routers, switches, print servers and IP telephones.

Licensing is very customer-friendly. For example, with a license for 100 clients, LOGINventory can write 100 "computers" and 100 "devices" to the database. The tool supports all standard databases such as Oracle, MS SQL-Server / MSDE, MS-Jet, MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Further Enhancements

LOGINventory has so far been available in German, English and Spanish. It is now also available in French. In addition, LOGINventory allows users to create their own translation tables for additional languages. To do this, it is possible to set the particular language used in dialog boxes and menus. The 'Windows language' is set to the current regional and language settings. In the case of Windows 2000 (or newer), the estimated duration and the frequency of use of the installed applications is calculated and displayed in the Control Panel under 'Add or Remove Programs'. Windows Vista is now fully supported.

Features and Benefits

For the analysis and evaluation of the network state, LOGINventory provides administrators with valuable information about the configuration of the computers, about the service releases of the software licenses currently in use and useful information for the helpdesks. You get information about PC model, manufacturer, serial number, CPU, BIOS, RAM, CD-ROM, disks, video and sound card, mainboard, battery ID, monitor, printer, network interface cards, IP and MAC addresses, operating system, service packs, security patches and installed software. Administrators can extend this list virtually at will. Since LOGINventory runs without software agents on the clients, there is no need to install or execute the program on the inventoried computers. Integrated into the Microsoft Management Console, the information collated is depicted in a familiar working environment for administrators. It is possible to print and export predefined and any number of customized reports, and to save them as HTML.

Roland Loetzerich, CEO of LOGIN, explains the financial benefits of the solution: "With conventional inventory solutions, you can expect to invest up to 15,000 euros for a network with a hundred PCs. This figure is split up into around 10,000 euros for client licenses and 5,000 for buying server hardware and software. For the same number of client licenses, LOGINventory only costs 600 euros. This dispenses with the purchase, installation, management and maintenance of additional hardware and software."

Prices and Availability

Licenses for LOGINventory 4.5 cost between 4 and 6 euros per PC for purchase directly from LOGIN. A free version for 20 clients + 20 TCP/IP devices is available for download at http://www.loginventory.com/downloads. Email support and all updates to version 4.5 are free for LOGINventory clients.
