LOGINventory5 RC2 availableMunich, Germany – Nov. 9th, 2009 – Only a few weeks after making Beta 3 public available, software developer Schmidt's LOGIN today introduced Release Candidate 2 of hardware and software inventory tool LOGINventory5. Compared to its Beta versions it is now possible to enumerate current remote desktop users for the scan of Windows computers, to save widths and sequences of columns in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Moreover, LOGINventory now offers data base migrations from former versions to v5. More information and RC2 download here. LOGINventory collects all data of all IP-enabled devices within the network. In Windows environments it is now possible to enumerate local administrators, admin groups, and current remote desktop users. With enhanced options and improved quality comes the inventory of non-Windows-based devices like Linux computers, routers, switches, print servers and IP phones via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). The Printer MIB for network printers and the Entity MIB for switches and routers are now enumerated by default.Enhanced MMC applicationThe new LOGINventory5 Dashboard offers a very user friendly graphical interface. Accessible via the root node, it provides a quick overview about the network’s basic inventory data. The settings for LOGINventory5 can now be made via the root node’s ‘Properties’, the entries in the root node’s new Eventlog track past incidents within the entire program package. A useful innovation for larger multi-site organizations is the new domain node displaying a clearly laid out view of the entire network within the MMC. The filtering of value groups within result lists is carried out over the filter bar as before. In LOGINventory5 the filter bar is now turned on by default and contains a pull down menu for picking selective values. For an improved overview over the assets users can now choose between the traditional list view and the new group view. New methods for analyzing dataUnder the redesigned hood LOGINventory5 contains new functions for enhanced operability. Analyses are available via hierarchical filters with the Analyse Nodes passed on to sub-nodes. Here they can be assigned to different users or user groups and can be displayed as default node types like Software, Assets, or User Node (Access Control). The LOGINventory time machine is now available over the ’Properties‘ of any Analyse Node. This change results from the new query designer which for the first time allows flexible and unrestricted configuration of queries. LOGINventory now with license managementLOGINventory5 offers some brand new license management capabilities. Software licenses can be grouped by software packages as well as it allows the administration of license acquisitions and deletions along with the associated documents. The detection of computers where software packages or hot fixes are not installed was also improved and is now implemented as standard functionality. New licensing model, traditional pricingLOGINventory v5 comes with a much simplified licensing model; the distinction between computers and devices was abrogated. Only successfully inventoried assets will be regarded and inserted into the data base. Deleted assets within the Recycle Bin will no longer need a license. |
