Updates & Upgrades (all versions)
In this article we explain the difference between the terms update and upgrade and how we define them to avoid any semantical misunderstandings.
Updates
Updates (in the software industry often even called Minor Upgrades) contain smaller enhancements i.e. within the LOGINventory program group. When bugs are fixed or a program modul is improved by new features, the updated version shows a changed number behind the dot (.), separating the number of the main version from the subversion. In the event of an update LOGINventory 4.5 becomes LOGINventory 4.6.
You may install updated versions over your existing LOGINventory software package without the need to deinstall it first. We recommend a backup of the database before starting the update.
Updates and upgrades for LOGINventory are not performed automatically. Please visit our website from time to time and look after the current LOGINventory version.
Updates are completely free of charge and can always be downloaded here.
Upgrades
An upgrade (or Major Upgrade) denominates the new main version of a software, released with new functions and enhanced features increasing the performance and adapted to changed program requirements. An upgrade is characterized by a new main version number in the product name. In the event of an upgrade the product name would change from LOGINventory 4.5 to the new version LOGINventory 5.0.
When purchasing LOGINventory you can benefit from our Software Upgrade Subscription License (SUSL). A SUSL can be purchased for 20% of the list price and in conjunction with LOGINventory only. It entitles the owner to get free hotfixes, updates and upgrades for the duration of 12 months. The period of validity for SUSL will be automatically extended by another 12 months unless the User terminates the extension six weeks at the latest before the date of expiration – as stated in the Licensing Certificate – is reached. The termination of SUSL needs to be sent to LOGIN GmbH in a written form.
After the release of an upgrade, customers with a valid SUSL please directly contact LOGIN sales or the respective reseller and ask for an upgrade license key.
Upgrades are fee-based. An upgrade from LOGINventory 4 to 5 costs 60% of the list price.
Current Upgrade information can also be found here.
