Don't be afraid of SAM – Part 4
To avoid economic and legal risks a working software asset management is essential. Find out through an automated process on which computers software is installed that the user perhaps uses twice a year or does not need at all. If unsure, ask in person to see whether what's installed is used indeed.
Check if licenses can be usefully used elsewhere or abolished completely. Consolidate and standardize software installations and licenses. Often, several tools for the same or similar tasks are used, which causes additional costs for training, maintenance and support.Protect your software investment and protect the management in the company from legal and economic consequences in case of license violations by regular internal audits.
Protect yourself by establishing permanent SAM processes in your organization to ensure the effective, legal and economically efficient use of software. Report regularly to the Board and explain the status of your software and licensing landscape. You will soon discover that you have everything under control.
