LOGINventory 5.8: Much rework on popular inventory software

Regarding hardware and software inventory in Windows networks, the new version inspires by its intelligent methods for an expanded discovery and an unambiguous interpretation of the gathered information. This applies to software including data on Microsoft SQL Server and Internet Explorer. In terms of hardware detection, the switch inventory via SNMP has been significantly improved.

Normally, the installation procedures for Microsoft SQL Server create entries in the list of installed software which do not let you make any conclusions to the existing edition. For this reason, the free Express edition cannot be distinguished from the expensive Enterprise edition.

A new method in LOGINventory 5.8 enables the detection from editions of SQL Server 2000 or later. If an MS SQL database exists, LOGINventory creates an additional entry in the software list, allowing to precisely determine the edition, version and service pack level.

Similar to this, the inconsistent ways of Microsoft Internet Explorer installations are treated. The current version reliably displays the various IE versions, totally independent from the method the browser was installed on a computer: integrated in Windows, as a hotfix or as a software package.

More new features in LOGINventory 5.8:

• detection of port assignments to all managed switches by implementation of a third technique
• improved discovery of Oracle software packages to differentiate database or client versions (9.x and later)
• enhanced offline folder detection
• PowerShell add-on: more script samples for easy-to-use automated evaluations
• Webinterface: Numeric sorting within column "Installations" in "Software"/"Packages" view, (before: alphabetic sorting)
• Access Control: Root node can be set for local users, even if LOGINventory computer is no domain member
• Revised documentation (Manual, Installation Guide, Trouble Shooting Guide)
